cub 154 electric problem

have a 154 lo boy my power is always on key off or on the only way I can turn it off is by unhooking batery I think my soleniod is bad am I correct or is it something else

Switch or wiring problem, solenoid is just for starting. Take a side panel off, pull the plug off of the switch and see if it stops running.

If there is an alternator installed, it could be feeding back through the ignition. It needs a diode in the wire going to the #1 spade terminal on the alt. The diode band end is to the alternator.(a guess at the problem) Jim

I thought of that too, then decided that if the problem is caused by backfeed from an alternator, I don't think unhooking the battery would kill it.

Incorrectly wired, or stuck starter relay internal connection. ignition bypass could do it. Pull off the belt and touch the cable to its terminal, if it spins the generator, it might be a stuck regulator, or the relay. Jim

could it something as dumb as the battery hooked up backwards I dont think it would work period the only reason I ask is the two cables the black will only fit on the postive and the red will fit on the negitive when I got tractor had no battery in to go by

Form 1/2 way to Chicago. I think it has an issue with wiring. I think they were negative ground, But do not know this for sure. Jim
