Learned a lesson.

Ask one question per thread.. OK here's the real question I wanted answered. Does a 350UD have a thermostat or is it supposed to use shutters? Because, on my new to me 350, the temp gauge doesn't move off COLD. So I covered the Radiator 3/4 ths and the gauge moved up to the Green RUN area. Looking in the Parts Breakdown I did not see a part number for a thermostat. I ASSUME that there should be one. Am I wrong?

Thanks

Loren

That question got answered in your last thread, but you are correct. General forum ettitquite says to only ask one question per thread (unless they are related...and by more than being on the same tractor) Not for you, but it also says to put the topin in the thread name. Don't just call the thread 39 Farmall M and ask some random question about a 39 M in the thread.

I forgot the tractor part...every Farmall (all letter series) I own has a thermostat. You do have to work their but off to make the gauge move. Sounds just like yours if you ask me.

They show a thermostat in the gas version on page 036, but do not show it in the diesel on page 062. They do show a water pump and fan, but the housing is different with no tstat provision.

It's not a matter of etiquette as much as it is a matter of effectiveness. Most often you will find that your first question gets answered, and any other questions get ignored.

The typical person can only concentrate on one thing at a time. It's just human nature, and a good writer learns to exploit that to get his message across.

Unfortunately, you did it again with this thread! You titled your thread "lesson learned" and talked about asking only one question. Then, you changed gears and asked a question about your 350D...

For the most effective answers to your question (which has already been answered in BOTH threads now BTW), you should start a thread titled "350D thermostat" and just ask the question about the thermostat.

BTW, your tractor WILL NOT warm up just sitting there idling. You need to work it.

Yes, old IH #367379R91. Messicks shows it 313942R92 now.
Started to answer the question the other day but was busy or didn't feel like answering.
If I want to answer it doesn't matter how many questions or how its speeled if I can make it out. One thing that I get a little bothered by is someone asking a question and when asked for a little more info to help with a answer, they never post back.

I found a part number in the diagram for the Diesel engine no problem. Now the problem, IH never did a real good job of sealing things around the thermostats and had a huge bypass system, so they are slow at warming up. I altered the fit of the thermostat in my H and M and one comes right up to lower part of operating temp, other one not so much but gets warm enough. Too much coolant goes right on past the thermostat through radiator and will cool them with no load and cool temps. Some models have a seal in housing to prevent this, other models don't have enough material in housing to machine a groove for a seal.
