I have an old h Underneath the tractor about 12 inches from the oilpan directly underneath the hydrolics there is a hole nothing is leaking out of it and I cleaned all around it so it doesnt have threades so a plug couldnt have been in it . Just wondering if anybody knows what it is and why its there

If the hole in question is in the side of the hydraulic reservoir sump, and is thumb sized, there will be one on the opposite side as well. If that is the hole, it is for attachments (usually with hydraulic systems. It has a slot ata an angle (like a starting crank hole) used to allow the insertion of a pivoting rod with a cross pin in the end. The cross pin retained the rod in the hole. Different mounted implements used the pivot, usually from both sides. Jim

The timing mark is on the front pulley on H & M. A, B, C, SA & SC had the mark on the flywheel.
The hole directly under the flywheel is to lube the pilot bearing.

i think wayne has it. if the hole is on the bottom area of the trumpet of the bell housing, it is the lube point for the pilot bearing. if you look at the crankshaft pulley, there will be a double st of timing marks close together, then about half way around the pulley, you should see a single mark. if you line up the single mark with the timing pointer, then look in the hole under the tractor, you should see the grease zerk.

Yes, Wayne is correct. Another reason you need an Operators manual. It has info you will never find by yourself.

The pilot bearing is in the crankshaft and there is no way to lube them but you can lube the throwout bearing.

I will have to look in the shop tomorrow, but IF memory serves there is a grease zerk in the circumference of the flywheel that indexes with the casting hole when the timing pointer is lined up at TDC with the crank pulley.
A passage thru the flywheel leading to the pilot bearing area allowed periodic greasing.
Too much grease led to a very "slippery" clutch!

On an H Farmall you can lube both, the pilot is done just like Wayne explained.

The hole in question though sounds like it might be the one to lube the throw-out bearing through, since the OP did say it was directly under the pump.

On Farmall H tractors the hole is for lubricating the Clutch Pilot Bearing. There is a second grease nipple, for the Clutch Release Bearing nearby. From the lubrication chart in the Farmall H Owner's Manual:
"Weekly or Every 60 Hours of Operation:
Clutch Release Bearing: Use pressure gun grease (chassis lubricant) and apply ten complete strokes of the lubricator. Fitting can be reached by removing the cover plate from the bottom of clutch housing.
Clutch Pilot Bearing: Use pressure gun grease (chassis lubricant) and apply not more than 3 or 4 strokes of lubricator. To get at grease fitting, turn crank until third (single notch) in fan drive pulley is in line with pointer on crankcase cover (see engine lubrication instructions). Fitting is then in line with hole in bottom of flywheel housing."

There is a similar arrangement on Farmall M, except that the clutch release bearing is greased through a hole on the left hand side of the clutch housing.

Care should be taken when greasing the pilot bearing that the grease gun does not have a very tight nozzle. Failure to do this can result in a considerable struggle to remove the nozzle from the grease nipple / zerk.

My MD you can lube the pilot bearing. My aftermarket clutch kit came with a sealed pilot bearing so I can't anymore.

Exactly. The pilot bearing actually lives in the flywheel, not in the crankshaft, and yes, the NEW pilot bearings are sealed, and cannot be lubed.
