Best IH Diesal Motor?

In all honesty a D282-310 that came out of a 706-56. But ya can put in what ever ya like and cobble it together . Or ya can sell it and buy a diesel . Myself i gave up on the we can make it work many years ago. I am going thru this with my friend wright now with well we can put this in and make it work , what he is sayen is that you can . And what i am sayen is IF you want a diesel then sell the gasser and go buy a diesel . It will cost less and a lot less trips to the bone yard for all them LITTLE pieces ya need .

I toyed with the idea on that very tractor last year. I ended up trading it off on a 1466. But if you are set on putting a diesel in that tractor I would go with a 400 series. (414 436 466) Anything you make fit is going to take work and in my opinion those engines were the best Ih ever made. They start easy run good arent to hard on fuel and parts for them are very easy to find. My 2 cents

Yeah there is a lot to be said for that. Unless you like a challenge and like to cobble things together the path of least resistance is to sell it and buy a diesel.

Their is no cobble to put those engines in.You use all IH parts.TO me the 361 and 407 out of the 06 or 56 are hard to beat, but their expensive to repair.Their is no trick to get the 400 series engine in.I have gathered up all the parts to put a 466 in my 706 gas.The easiest would be the 282 d if you can find a good one.I have found good engines off 403 and 715 combines on sales.I have a 560 with a diesel off of a combine and also a gas one in my 460 these also work in the 706.
