4H project back on track - and a proud dad moment

My son just finished sandblasting and painting the body of the Super A - final drives/trans/etc.

Would post pictures but camera batteries are dead (always at the wrong time!!)

We've officially passed the point of disassembling / reparing/ cleaning. Now it's pretty much all paint and assembly.

Has to be done for the 28th (Memorial day parade). The kids will be very proud if they make it.

But what makes ME proud is that my son did this latest work on his own - after having been released from the pediatric intensive care unit the night before where he was laid up for an entire week with a collapsed lung.

He was very, very sick from the heavy drugs, and in a LOT of pain. Had a big tube coming out of his chest, and lots of machines beeping constantly to keep us awake all night, every night. A miserable experience. But he kept his sense of humor through it all and never complained.

(And yes, I did discuss the issue of paint fumes and sand with the doctor who assured me if he's wearing a respirator he's fine)

Glad your son is doing better.

I have some info you may be interested in concerning some of the drugs they use in a case like that. If you would like me to sheare that drop me an email at rlkfam @ yahoo . com (remove spaces). One of my sons when through that a few years ago.

Your son is an amazing person! I am glad to hear he is doing better. I agree that there will be other parades, his health is the most important thing. Good luck and post pictures of the on going process and the finished product! God Bless you and your family.

I would like to stress that his health is the my highest priority.

Talked with the doctors at length about this - they say his lung is healed and is back to normal. The only thing he has to be careful about is lifting heavy objects because of the incision.

I wasn't going to let him do anything strenuous, but again - doctors assured me he'd be perfectly fine doing what he did. In fact they kept stressing that the best thing he can do is get right up and do what he normally does.

Which even included singing in the school chorus. He was selected to be in the big regional "districts" for chorus, and they had their concert that night.

I was afraid he might blow a gasket, so to speak, by singing - but again, doctors insisted there was no reason for concern, his lung is totally back to normal.

One positive thing I have to say about living in Massachusetts (there aren't many!), we really do have a lot of good doctors here. Some of the best in the world.

JR, a respirator will NOT take care of the issues with hardener. Get him a breathing air kit, they are about $300 and work great. I have asthma and use one to paint with.
