I'm trying to figure out how to tell the year model of my Super A tractor. The serial number plate is completely missing. What are my options?

Look on the block under the #1 spark plug.
There should be a raised boss with a number stamped in it. That will probably be the ser.#.
Unless the engine has been changed & they didn't stamp a number in the new block.
That's the way mine is.

Dem be casting numbers. Vern is right, rasied boss with a machined surface and numbers stamped into it, FAA xyzyx or somesuch...

Failing that, you can get a good idea of what year it is by the date codes on the casting, like Uncle Henry suggests. All the large castings like engine block, bell housing, transmission, etc. will have a date code on them. Month, Day, and a letter code for the year.

I always remember that Z = 1954, and work both directions from there.

A Super A will have:

Q = 1947 (some very early Super As may have parts cast in late 1947)
R = 1948
S = 1949
T,U,V = 1950
W = 1951
X = 1952
Y = 1953
Z = 1954
