International 240 Utility Question

I have a 1959 International 240. The hydraulic fluid is full, but the pump is dry. Does anyone know why? Therefore we have no power steering or pick up our three-point.
PLEASE HELP! :)

I beleive your 240 is the same as my 404. all the fluids are the same and stored in the rear. make sure tranny is full and if you don't have hydraulics your pump has failed or the hydraulic filter is dirty. if you haven't had the filter apart there are several screens plus the filter, note assembly. make sure if you have remote valve assemblies all the controls are in the neutral position.

Great Chuck! Thanks for your help! It seems to be working this morning. So that's a positive thing. Do you know what this tractor would be worth with a loader and a grader on it? Let me know if you have any insight on that. :)
Thanks again!

Yeah, filter would be the first thing to check. Next might be any leaks in the suction line to the pump, like a bad o-ring or a crack or hole in the line. Gear pumps do not "self prime" very easily, so any leak can be a problem if it sits a while.
As to what they are worth.... there are probably two things that really matter here... condition and location.

BTW, while we're on the subject of 240s and maybe some other models, who the H*** designed the "anti-sway" set-up on these tractors? Mine has been broken ever since I bought it a few years ago, but I finally took the last part to a friend to finish up machining last week and got it back yesterday. Got it back on the tractor, but have not tried it with the blade yet... had mowing to do with the Dixon first. Seems a lot more complicated than nessessary... why not a couple bars to a pivot point under the axle like most small tractors.
