checking timing on 806

Had injector pump (Rossa)rebuilt and it started and ran weak like the timing was off. Had the markes lined up. Will it help if i roll pump left or right? What am i messing.

OK now that it is morning . First pull the timing cover off clutch housing and re install the timing pointer with the two cover bolts , next shut off the fuel , then remove the timing window on the pump . Get the timing marks lined up with the timing pointer on the flywheel. Then check and see if the lines on the pump line up. NOW IF you are in doubt as to if you are in fact on TDC then pull the valve cover and make sure that # 1 is indeed at TDC . Won't be the first time that someone has screwed up and got them out of time or i have even had and injection shop set one 180 with the lines lined up but the pump was 180 .

This is good to note. When I had the Injector pump rebuilt for my 806 6 years ago, The shop put the updated 856 parts in it and didn't specifically tell me to time it to 856 specs. It always ran strong, but started poorly. One day, the idea popped into my head to time it to 856 specs (the IH manual states to do this if installing 856 IP on 806), I did it, and it started noticeably better. -Andy
