Super M Differential Removal

Hello,

I have a Super M that one of the bearing is missing some of the roller balls on the right side of the differential. I have never had one of these apart before and was wondering someone could give me the step I need to take to remove the differential and reinstall it? Any help would be greatly appreciated! My second question is does anyone know what type of fluid is to be used in the rear of these tractors?

You need to get a IT manual. Then you have the directions in front of you. A parts manual will also help. 90 weight geaar lube is fine in the trans and rear end.

The IH service manual is all I used on my H and it went fine. I'm not big on I&T manuals. There is usually only an extra tip/direction or two over the IH maual.

Get the service manual AND the I&T manual, I often get more from I&T than the IH manual, sometimes it has IH diagrams in it that the IH manual does not have. The M service manual is somewhat weak in several areas.

Some of the manuals don't really give you a step by step procedure for disassembly. Just pull the top cover off. Put stands under each axle housing, then take wheels off, push axles out after taking bolt out of end of axle,(use original or longer bolt and block between axles and hold bolt, turn axle) take bull gears out, brakes off, bull pinion shafts out. Then support the differential and take diff support off both sides. Keep track of the shims and put them back the same regardless of amount of backlash. They have worn into a pattern.

And replace every seal and gasket while you are in there.

pete 23 what kind of stands are you using to support the rear end? Were could I buy a set? When removing the axle are you suppose to the the bolt back into the hole you removed it from? Between which two points are you suppose to put the spacer? I have a Jensens IH service manual. Does anyone know of any other who sell service manuals for this tractor?

International and I&T.

Here is how I supported my H. I swung the hoop drawbar around the opposite direction and supported it with big cribbing. It was pretty stable like this.

Does the belt pulley drive get removed prior to the top plate getting removed? Or is the belt pulley drive and top plate removed together?

Remove the belt pully drive first. I would guess they could come out as one, but it would make the thing too heavy or not balance right if using a shop crane.

There are two stud/pin things with threads on them. Thread a 7/8" (?) nut on them and spin them out to help you remove the belt pulley drive.
