have a farmall 400 rebuilt carb can't get it to suck up fuel . The only way to get it start is hold hand over carb . take hand off and it stalls. Acts like carb won't suck fuel up. Have plenty of suckon.

You have a passageway inside the carb that is blocked or you have a blocked fuel line.

It's pretty common for someone to miss a passage inside a carb so really other than time it's no big deal. And a lot of "carb" problems are really supply.

Carbs do not suck fuel from the line, so the first issue is finding if it is getting sufficient fuel. Remove the fitting at the carb, use a clean pan and test the flow by turning on the valve at the sediment bowl. If a soda straw size stream flows it is good. if not clean the supply.
if good, the carb is not flowing fuel internally. If you purchased a rebuilt carb, I would send it back. If you did it, purchase a can of carb clean that is big enough to submerge the carb parts. leave for two days. then use fine wires and air to blow out each and every passage. Jim

I had that problem on my H when I forgot to put the Venturi back in. It would not hit a lick without the choke on. DId it act this way before the rebuild?

Disconnect the gas line at the carb and if you have a good stream of gas from the tank remove the tube fitting from the carb and look for a screen behind that fitting could be plugged from dirt and rust. Hal

Found out the problem the venturi is missing it was all a part when i got it. If anybody has one let me know thanks
