350 belt pulley bearings

I have to put a new seal in the belt pulley on my 350. By the feel and the sound if it, the bearings are shot too.

Is it possible to reinstall both shafts without removing the belt pulley housing ? If so, how do you line up the drive shaft with the drive gear ?

Thanks

Greg

To the best of my knowledge, it is necessary to remove the unit. There are pressed in components that defy working on it while attached. It is also much easier to deal with on the bench. Jim

I looked at the parts breakdown and the 350 belt pulley is same design as H and M. To replace the seal and bearings, you do not have to remove the entire pulley housing. You do have to remove the shaft assembly. The pulley flange and shaft are all one piece. So you remove the bolts that hold the bearing flange/cage to the pulley housing. Then you can slide the pulley shaft assembly out and replace the bearings and the seal. However, there is also a shaft that runs front to rear that drives the pulley shaft. If that needs bearings, then you will have to remove the entire pulley housing. The gear lash for the bevel gears is set by shims under the bearing flange of the pulley shaft. Be sure to put them back like you found them, or if you are real particular, get a manual and then set the gear lash with shims per the manual.
