Farmall H fuel tank

So as I am disassembling my new project, I find that the fuel tank is almost full. However when I dump it out it appears that the inside of the tank is a little rusty. Not catastrophically so, mind you, but enough that I will be cleaning out the settling cup all the time.

Where does one go to get a tank cleaned up and possibly lined?

I've cleaned tanks up by putting a small piece of some kind of sharp chain, like dog chain in the tank and shaking and rolling it around to break the rust loose. It takes hours but it works. Better than buying a new tank that is if you have the time.

Radiator shops often will make them clean. The rusty part should be sealed to prevent further rust with a tank sealer. Some have strapped the tank to a tractor wheel with a cup of clean Steel nuts for abrading the rust. Jim

Be careful and check the baffle first before putting anything in the tank chaina and nuts can get caught then how are you going to get them out.

Before sealing it, know that sealant leaked down into the fuel system of my '44, and that's what kept it from running for 20 years. I got a new NOS tank for it. I don't think I am going to get it sealed, but I could change my mind if I find a good place to do it.

I cleaned out my MD starting tank with acid and it worked awesome. Make sure you seal it or coat it with diesel right away or it will rust again.

No, you will not be cleaning out the sediment bowl all the time. Yes, you will be cleaning it a few times, but then, that is what the sediment bowl is for, and it will catch all of the rust. I will guess you may need to clean it 2 or 3 times in a relatively short time frame, and after that it will need cleaning only occasionally. Make sure the screen is in place at the top of the sediment bowl and you won't have any trouble.
