After getting a kit from Rustyfarmall and rebuilding the carb the old trusty mower tractor started right up. Carb was really a mess and soaked it for three days waiting for the kit over the weekend. Earlier found some very badly burned points which I replaced. When it started it had a miss on a plug which I had earlier removed and cleaned when I performed a compression test. Must have had an issue as it straightened out after running a minute or so. It had Champions in the tractor from the PO but I generally use Autolites but didn't change them out yet. We'll see how it runs in the grass when mowing. Thanks for all the advice and comments during the diagnostic process to locate the culprits, Hal.
