Farmall 300 axle, whoops

Was almost done planting beans last night when the left rear wheel decided to take off on me, isn't there a country song there (you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel????) Anyhow, I digress. The axle snapped off on the left side. That is the third axle I know of on that tractor that has snapped, the other two were when it was wearing a NI corn picker. I've been told that corn pickers were notorious for breaking axles. The last time and this time were the same axle, I stopped picking corn about 10 years ago so that axle doesn't have many picker hours on it, at least not from me. I called my dealer and they can not get them new from CIH anymore. How do I know if I am getting an axle that is not started already? Andersons in Bluffton has them but I want to get a good one.

One more thing, is there more than one axle type for a 300 Row crop?

2-3/4 diameter axles were a option on late 300 tractors or sold to add on. Regular axle was 2.5 diameter. Requires changing axle housing and wheels also. Find parts on some 350 or 460 tractors. Wheels used were the same as a 400,450,560, ETC.

I have 4 Super H axles that I think may be the same as a 300 but I
am not sure. I've been looking to get $20 for one, and I can mail it
to you.

I have seen axels do that on 300/350/400/450 tractors. Some people chain them around the axel when hauling them. A couple of good sharp bumps in the road and that becomes the weak spot. Kind of like snapping a stick in your hand. The chain becomes the stress point and the axel gets the stress. They usually don't completely break until you are using them in the field.

I've been told by different sources that the H axles had a different sline on the end. Is this true? H axles are way easier to get if they are the same.

I don't know about the splines, I can take a picture to send you or get measurements if that would help. The axles are 6" longer on a SH or 300 than they are on an H.

The H Super H all had 2.5" outer axle diameter, when IH came with 300/350 2-3/4" axle were option, in the midwest corn belt a lot of mounted pickers were sold and put on. They take different axle housings because of axle bearings bigger.
