1948 Super A decals

I had posted a while back about trying to find the proper decals for a 1948 super A.

After MUCH searching and researching - I finally came right back to one of the first places I looked - and there they are. Binder Books has them. Don't know how the )*#*&^# I missed them.

I figured in the interest of helping others who may be searching this site for this same info, I should close the loop and post what I found.

The 1948 super A's had different decals than all the later models.

It seems since it was just one year, that most people don't bother carrying the slightly different decal sets

The most obvious difference is the hood decals - they say "Mccormick Deering" not just "Mccormick"
There is also the IH logo on the left like later models have.

So it's different than the earlier A's that (I beleive) only had the mccormick deering/farmall with no IH logo.

The round super A hood decal is also very different - it has a clear background - not the white which is sold in most decal kits. (I believe this round decal carried forward a couple years, not just 48)

The oil filter decal is smaller too - there may be other differences, but those are the most obvious.

I was starting to think I was crazy since I knew for sure my hood was original, but nobody seemed to believe it said mccormick deering and not just mccormick.

I also see from many online pictures of restorations of 48's that most people seem to use the newer decals. I assume they just gave up looking as I almost did. (or just didn't care)

I'm adding a picture (not my super a, wish it was) that I grabbed from this site - it's a 1948 with the right decals.

Funny you mention that - that's what convinced me I wasn't crazy - figured if this guy knew to put a black seat on it, he must have gotten the decals right too!

Guy Fays book on Farmall Letter Series has some pics from when they were new showing correct decals and placement.

Did you ever see a new SA with a black seat some of us were around when they were new and i never did see a new one with a black seat nor a SC and others built before that.

Nope, too young to have seen a new one at all.

But I've never seen a black seat on any letter series farmall, period, until I saw this picture that somebody posted a while back.

Figured by this picture they were fairly common - though I can't tell the age of the picture - or if those are supers or not.

That's what makes this site great - you can get first hand knowledge from people like you who KNOW the answers.

Trying to research this stuff from pictures and literature is almost impossible. There's just not a lot of reliable info out there.

My hood is a good example. I HAVE the original hood - I can see the very clear imprint of the original decals on there. I KNOW it's the hood that came with the tractor - yet I've had 20 different people tell me I'm wrong.

Can get frustrating!

The problem is that when I looked at the Binder Books web page the listing shows the correct A decal bu the hood side decal; says "IH McCormick Farmall" not "IH McCormick Deering Farmall". Am I looking in the wrong place, none of the other Super A decal sets have illustrations.

Athol, when I did my 1947 A I also purchase decals from Binder books.
The kit I bought did not have the proper hood decal in it but if you scroll down in their decal section you will find an individual decal section. There you will find the proper IH McCormick Deering hood decal offered seperately.
Good Luck
Dennis
