H battery not charging/draining battery

Check the specific gravity in your battery cells. Put a voltmeter across your battery terminal with the tractor running at half throttle and high idle. Does your ammeter ever show a charge (needle on the + side) ?

The specific gravity of the cells should be within 50 points of each other (25 is better). At half throttle you should see something like 6.5+ volts, at WOT 7.5V. Ammeter should show a charge as soon as you are off low idle.

If your ammeter shows a discharge with the tractor off, you might have a bad voltage regulator.

You didn't say if it has a voltage regulator or not. If it doesn't have regulator then the light switch hasto be turned on to charge the battery.

What is the Delco Remy # on the gen and does it have a regulator or a cut-out and does your generator have the adjustable third brush.
