parts interchangability between 460 and 560 IH

I have one of each of these tractors. The 560's motor is full of water, but the 460's will turn over. I am trying to put together a good working 460 for my son to pull. The steering box is loose on the 460, the 560's feels fine. The radiator on the 460 has been patched on. Will the entire front steering assembly and radiator unbolt from the frame rails and swap between these two tractors? Will the coolant capacity stay the same? The starter on the 460 drags, the 560's starter is larger, but will it fit? What is involved in removing the hydraulics and deleating the power steering on these tractors? Thanks guys for your help.

Look closely at the rear ends. Some 460's had a lighter transmission. You definitely want the heavier one. Everything else you mentioned should swap out ok.

Other then the basic engine Nothing else will work. The only difference in 460 rear ends is that the early 460's had 2 1/2 inch axles and the later ones had 2 3/4 inch axles and this was only on the outside part . They would break axles when a mounted picker was mounted . If ya want to make a puller and only a puller then go find a C301 combine engine and use the ft. cover from the 460 and rear engine plate from the 460 and the 460 flywheel and have a pressure plate made for pulling with heavier springs as the smaller 10 1/2 inch clutch will slip if ya make any kind of power . You can make good power with vary little work on a shoestring budget . Myself i would not be afraid of the 2 1/2 axles for pulling even up to 8500 lbs. The hard part with 2 1/2 inch axles is finding a set of 9 bolt hubs as when you find the 2 1/2 inch part ya have to machine a key way.

Keep the 560 all 560 and the 460 all 460. The 560 is basicly a upgraded M whereas the 460 is basicly a upgraded H. The 560 is a much heavier, stronger built tractor than the 460.

So the front bolster, (I guess thats what its called) pedistal and radiator with framework won't interchange? The frame rails are the same width.

The front steering bolster will interchange, the radiator is thicker cored on 560, believe same demensions otherwise, engine parts gets tricky after the basic block & head, rear frame from clutch housing back, not much will fit, the front frame rails at the back where it fastens on clutch housing are smaller. Front axle or spindles are smaller with lighter bearings. As other replies stated 460 is a 6 cyl H, 560 is a 6 cyl M. Hitch, axles, brakes, housings all different. Some of hyd parts will interchange.
Could fix 560 engine with 403/503/615/715 engine.

Yes, they will interchange.

Everything from the bell housing forward on a 460 is the same as a 560 AFAIK, except for the frame rails.

Never measured them just know the bell housing is narrower so there for assumed that the ft. was narrower . I just fix them not measure them . owned one 460 and like a boat or motor cycle there were two days i was happy . The day i bought and the day i sold it . since then i have never bought another .
