Super C oil filter question ?

Tried to put new filter and O-ring on the Super C oil change last week, but the NAPA # 1172 filter I had as a 350 tractor extra, was fine except the big rubber oil ring seal at the filter housing base, was a bit too big to fit the groove.....so do I have to use genuine Case-IH filter...darn, the nearest dealer is about 90 miles from me ... !!!
I had to re-use the old ring that I carefully took out without damaging ! They do look the same but the new one I guess was thicker ?
Any suggestions ?

Make sure there is not an old o ring still in there.

Something doesent sound rite mite have been that the wrong o-ring was packed. I get mine from Car Quest made by Wix never any problems C,SC,A,and B all take the same filter if they have the short one early A and B used the tall ones.

My guess is that part of an OLD O-ring is still in the groove.

You may have and old seal packed in that groove, which is common. If it doesn't leak, leave it alone, but if you have leakage, you need to remove that old o ring seal, and replace with the new one.

I am using the same Napa filter on my Super C. I would agree with Dave. The first time I change it I had a hell of a time getting the old one out. It had to be scraped out alittle piece at a time. The groove that it fits in is deeper than it looks.

Thank you fellas. I do recall finding that out
on a 350 tractor years ago....the old ring was way down in, and like it had actually 2 rubber rings in there. I have a dental pick or 2 and
will try to find out if there is some junk in that groove. I usually get them loose by taking my time, I just never suspected this filter would have 2 rings in it as I did get the one
out without breaking it. I will check at a later
time though, as it is working fine as is right
now. Thanks for the comments .........

Some of those rings are so hard from age they feel like the bottom of the groove. I have had to break out many over the years. They come out in little bits.
