Which Full Mounted Plow For A 450?

My Dad bought a new 450 back in 1957. It had a full mounted, fast hitch 4-14 plow with it when he got it. We still have the tractor but the plow is long gone. I would like to find a plow like it originally came with and was wondering if anyone new what model this would have been. Thanks for any help.

I would guess a model 411.

Not sure what the plow # would be, may depend on how long after it left the factory until purchased. Don't think the 411 model came out until later 1958. Do you remember if it was a break away, trip beam or other?
If the top cross beam had rounded corners on top it could be what I think was a model 4-F-43 plow.

Very possible, Andrew. I tried to find a pic of a 411 plow in the photo archives, but no luck. I did find a pic of a 311 and that looks very close to what I remember. Anybody got any pics of a 411 plow?
Thanks for your help.

Don't think you could buy a 411 in 1957. What about this one made from around 55 to 58. Model 4-F43.

D,thanks for the info. I can't remember much about the plow, but I'm 99% sure it had a steel tail wheel. Could the 4-F43 have had a steel tail wheel?

Yes the same tail wheel steel or rubber was optional for both plows. hard to say what plow it was if you can,t recognize it. 4-F 43 was used in some advertizement pictures on a 450 though.

Thanks for the link,Andrew. That is one nice looking plow. I talked to them this afternoon about it and questioned them if it was the "correct" plow for a 450, but they were not sure. D has me wondering now with his post on the 4-F43. Going to talk to some of the family and see if I can find more input. I'm sure that I can remember the white steel tail wheel like the one in the link but that is about all.

I have an IH Application Listing of IH Fast Hitch and Mounted Implements for Farmall and International Tractors listing the various types of implements and the tractor models they are used on. This publication doesn't have a date but ends with the early 1960's tractor models. The model numbers listed for use with the Farmall 450 tractor which are 4 bottom fast hitch models are the Model 411 and 4-FTC43. Maybe someone can provide a photo of the latter for you to see it's unique features to help identify the model you are searching for. Best of luck in your search, Hal.

Looked at the IH parts web site and the 4-F43 and 4-FTC43 are listed under the same heading.
Can't tell from it what the difference is, unless its the frame. Show a change in 57, one frame listed 1956 and 57 and another 57 and 58.
Looking at IH paint committe decision records at the wisconsin H.S. site says they decided the paint colors for a 411 plow in feb. 1958. Don't think the plows made it to dealers until mid to end of the year.

D Slater, The 4-F43 & the 4-FTC43 are the same plow, just different designation of tractors to be used with plow. On the 4-F43, the 4 means it is meant for the Farmall 400 (current new tractor when plow was made), the "F" meant it was a fast hitch plow and the "43" was model #. A few years later, when the 450 came out with traction control fast hitch, IH changed the designation of the same plow to 4-FTC43. The "4" at that point meant for the Farmall 400 & 450. The "F" still meant fast hitch, the "TC" meant for traction control and the model was still #43. More than you probably wanted to know about early fast hitch model #`s......

Thanks Mark for the information because I was never sure what the difference was. They are kind of a rare model compared to some other IH plows.

Thanks for the info, Hal. I talked with my cousin, who has a few years on me and he thinks it had a main frame that was the pressed steel type, like in the IH brochure that was posted here as opposed to the one piece square tube style main frame of the 411.
Any way, since my dad & uncle are both gone and only two of us in the family can even remember plow at all, I guess either plow would be OK. At least now I have an idea of some model numbers to look for. I"m sure either model will be a rare find and probably expensive but ya never know til ya start look"n. Many thanks to all who posted pics & info.

Hi 2+2 Guy: I have a 4 bottom IH FastHitch plow. Iam in ZipCode 56164. Distance is a big factor considering the weight...

Thanks, Agpilot. I just googled your zip code and unfortunately 791 miles and 13 hours is too far for me. Wish we were closer. We could be deal'n if it is for sale.
