Farmall h fuel adjustment screw

My fuel adjustment screw on my carb is very loose and gas drips out of it, even when it is set to the point where it almost kills the engine. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix?

Tighten the packing nut that is between the adjustment screw and the carb body until it quits dripping gas. If the nut is already tight, you need a new packing.

there is a graphite packing that goes in there. It is located in the nut that holds the adjustment needle. Last time i got one was from case ih. I have also made some with 'grahite rope' used for plumbing, just a small strand.

I've lost count of the number of Farmall H and M carburetors I have rebuilt that did NOT have the correct packing gland. I have found several with teflon tape wrapped arond the shaft, quite a few with that little piece of felt that is furnished in the kit to be used as a choke shaft dust seal, and even a few with NOTHING in there. Believe it or not, it was quite evident that NONE of those methods were very successful.
