Farmall 450 Gas back hydraulic questions

Hello,
I am currently having some issues with my Farmall 450 2 point Ram. I am not sure how to tell if the actual hydralic pump or the RAM. Is there a way? The Ram is the original, so I am leaning towards that, but....
When I have my sprayer attached to the back, I can lift the sprayer no problem with ~1200lbs of water, the problem is, it does not STAY up for any amount of time, it takes 5min for the sprayer to drop down.

I just don't know what to check first, if there is anything to check, or just start replacing..??

Thanks for any input on this.

Tony

It may be by passing in the cylinder . Now if it has the org. cylinder there is a pin that sticks out of the top of the cylinder under the flipper plate as i call it and you can raise the hitch up to where you want it and press this pin in and it should hold the hitch at the desired hight untill ya want to lower it then you just move the hitch control lever to the UP position for a second and it will pop the lock pin back up then you can lower the hitch.Keep in mind that your working a tractor that has had extensive field testing and may be getting wore out and your problem maybe leakage thru the control valve.

TV is correct. I will add that if the piston in the cylinder is leaking from under side to the top, the stop pin he mentioned will not cure the issue. If it is the valve leaking by, it will do the trick. Jim

If hoses are installed at the end of the steel lines bolted to the side of the battery box, and a check valve block is bolted to the block on the end of the steel lines its bypassing in the cylinder or the check valve is leaking through. Or a line leak.
Hose on right side of the cylinder goes to the top hole check valve block and the other hose goes in the steel line end block, bottom hole.
Also is the cylinder hooked up to raise when the control handle is pushed forward?
Not sure what you mean on the drop, but think you mean the leak off rate. If other problem control valve needs set to double acting with the check valve and lines hooked the way IH intended.
