806 w/ MW turbo question.... Tractor Vet, Delta Red

was running my turbo'd 806 with a normal load for an hour or so today. With a cab and all I have to wear ear muffs. When I stopped and took the muffs off I immediately heard a louder than normal whistle coming from the exhaust. It always whistled a bit but not as noticable as this. At idle it is about normal, as you you rap it up it gets loudest right around 1800 rpm, then it seems to become less at 2100 or so. Pyrometer was in the normal range when I was running it. No oil out of exhaust or the such. Just the louder than normal whistle. Is it something to check into, if so what do I check? Thanks, funtwohunt

Check for a loose hose clamp between the turbo and intake manifold. The whistle you hear may be air escaping from a loose hose.

It may also be caused by the compressor or turbine as the bearing and or shaft is getting wore . Pull the intake hose off and feel for excess shaft play and also look for any signs of oil leakage.

Oh also if ya have a pressure gauge that will read in the low area like 30lbs down install it and watch the pressure under load i don't think you will see much over 15 lbs boost , But if it under 8 it is getting time.

Greatly appreciate the info. I will check this all out. I went out this morning and started it and warmed it up, then disk a 20 acre field. Didn't notice the loud whistle at all. Still going to check things out. Thanks again
