Super C not starting Update

Last December I asked for suggestions on why my Super C not starting even though it spun over really fast but started if I pulled it. Some of you said the condenser and others said the coil. Now fast forward to three weeks ago, I charged the battery for a little while and disconnected the charger and just for giggles I hit the starter and it started right up on the second revolution and has been starting ever since and I never installed either of parts that I purchased and was going to install. Maybe it just needed some R&R, lol.

The starter could have been pulling to much from the starter, and thus not having enough power to the coil. Happens pretty often if you start enough semi dead tractors.

Look for a terminal that has rust & isn't making good contact. Check ALL wire ends by pulling on the wire to locate any problem connections.

I'm with Andrew on this - I've had my share of won't start tractors (from lack of starting and use) and have found what appears to be good batteries are usually just enough on the low side (usually around 6.1 or 12.1 volts or so) and the tractor won't start. Hit is with a charger for a short time and get that voltage up a little and then they usually fire right off. Give that a good try before tearing into stuff that is most likely just fine. Hope this helps, Hal.

I currently have 4 little used tractors on charge maintainers from Walmart, current price about $22. Problem solved.

Yes, and I need to get a few as well which would end a lot of on-going issues, Hal.
P.S. When I first started with Boeing in Wichita right out of college in the early 1960's I worked with a guy whose FIL had 16 sections of wheat in one block in western Kansas. Who knows that might have been a small patch but was a lot to someone who grew up on 400 acres. Also, when airplanes were landing at night at McConnell AFB with their landing lights on you could very clearly the amount of harvest dust in the air during the summer. Is wheat still grown at the same level in the state out your way?

That's over 10000 acres. I think the "average" farm size in western KS is between 1500 and 2000 acres, but varies all over the place. There is still a lot of wheat out here. However, the 60's were when irrigation was taking hold, and irrigated corn acres increased. I believe the most acres are still in wheat, although some of it is irrigated. There is a lot of irrigated alfalfa out here also. The water table is dropping, someday this area will be mostly dryland again. Some farmers such as the one who owns the land next to me grow irrigated corn, followed by double cropped wheat, followed by a 10 or 11 month fallow period. That gives him a break from continuous cropping, and one summer with no irrigation. I think he rotates at least 3 quarters that way, along with other land that is out of my sight. Farmer on the other side of me grows continuous irrigated corn, and never turns off his sprinkler system from May-Sept. Both of them use the same "puddle" of water our household and lawn use.

I have ruined far more batteries from lack of useage than I've ever ruined by excessive use. With the lack of use goes the lack of keeping charged and there goes the life of the battery.

It could still be a voltage drop problem.

After you charged the battery, the voltage was high enough to turn the starter and charge the ignition coil.

As long as you run it often enough and long enough to keep the battery charged, it will continue to start. Leave it sit for a month and you may be in for a re-lapse.

For $20 you can purchase an automatic battery maintainer at TSC or Walmart. If you plan on leaving the tractor sit for a length of time, and it's near power, you would be wise to attach the maintainer and plug it in. This will keep the battery topped up and ready for the next time you want to run the tractor.
