M&W Clutch Internals

I've had some more time to play with the M&W clutch on my "new" Super M.

1. Pulling the lever does not stop the tractor. The "over-center" action is kind of weak.

2. Stomping on the brakes stops the tractor, but something is definitely slipping and as soon as you release the brakes, the tractor starts moving immediately.

3. The lever "bounces" in reverse, and the mechanism "clicks."

I've compared what I have against that parts diagram that's been floating around, but I don't see anything missing. I can only conclude that I have a wear or adjustment problem.

I've never dug into one of these before and neither has Dad. Any pointers on what we should be looking for?

Cant help with the clicking.Remove the center cover
a d tight the spanner nut a notch or two. That will
increase the 'snap'.Or the cam assembly could be
worn out.The nonstopping is probably warped/dirty
clutch plates or missing/broken 'seperator' springs. The splines are a very tight tolerance/fit.A little dirt, rust, grooving,or grease on the disks will cause problems.I've been "in and out" of that clutch
multiple times,but it has been 20 years.Call if I
can be of further assistance.(970)874-3973 Steve Btw,I have most of M clutch that I'd like to sell.IIRC,it needs the handle/shifter ...
