Hey guys...

Just wanted to update you all. Look for older posts for more info... if you see something I might be missing please let me know. Super excited about this epic 560 project. goal is still RPRD this summer!

-All the sheet metal is done, including LOTS of smaller parts. Turned out amazing to say the very least! This included the front & rear weights too.

-We did end up removing the head and sending it out. Will replaced oil pan gasket too since we have come this far. Pistons & cyl's look great!

-Both rims over to shop getting sandblasted & powder coated. Will be reinstalled with new tubes on my like new Firestone tires. Plan is to re-mount them after chassis gets out of paint shop.

-In processes of removing both frame rails.... sand blasting, priming & reinstalling.

- We will have motor back together within couple weeks.... then it's off to sand blaster to get tractor done and off to paint!!

You comment...."then it's off to sand blaster to get tractor done".....You may want to read up, and investigate more before sandblasting the entire tractor. I guess I have heard too many negatives on it, regarding sand getting into places it shouldn't (engine, trans, etc). I know I used to do quite a bit of bead blasting small assemblies, and I usually figured on disassembling, and cleaning everything after, or disassembling first, and masking off what I did not want abrasive getting into, and even then sometimes the abrasive would get into places it shouldn't. I know opinions vary, but I would never sandblast an engine assembly, unless I was planning on tearing it down after, and clean inside and out after, then reassemble.

Yeah there are different schools of thought on this but I agree with you. Matter how good you mask and cover sand will make its way into places you don't want it to. However, I did repaint an M for a guy when I was in high school and I blasted the tractor. I don't remember for sure but I don't think I directly blasted the engine very much. That was 30 years ago and that old M is still going strong with no mechanical issues since then. I suppose you could get away with it but I sure wouldn't risk it on such a highly detailed project as this.

Yes guys have heard ALL the stories and read LOTS about the pros/cons of sand blasting.

Good part is the guys who are helping me have been restoring tractors for 20yrs + and know what they are doing.

Better part this is the guys who are doing the sand blasting are VERY familiar with tractor projects like this one. So basically they are NOT going to push it with the blasting in wrong areas. We also will be using a professional air compressor to blow off the tractor.

I'm with you guys 100% though, bit uneasy about going down this road, since my tractor is NOT that bad to start. Good part is we have removed SO much that could interfere with with sand blasting.
