I have a 1955 International 300 utility tractor and lost the bolt? off the bottom of the carburator. What size? Is there a valve in it?

Also starter sparks and smokes some times others times it starts just fine, should I get a new starter or can I have it rebuilt? Thanks.

If in the front bottom edge, it is not a bolt, it is a meetering valve for adjusting the high speed power mixture. It is beyond important, and it needs to be the correct one, not a bolt that fits. br>Get the starter rebuilt and use a new syyle drive pinion to replace the old heavy spring unit (even if it is working now it is best practices to use the new type. If you lost the high speed idle adjusting mechanism, the tractor would most likely NOT run, and gasoline would be leaking profusely from the hole. Likewise if you lost the 1/8" pipe drain plug, gasoline would be escaping at a very high rate of speed. However, if you lost the welsh plug from the hole in the very bottom center of the carburetor, the tractor will still run, and gasoline will NOT be leaking out, other than MAYBE a drop or two sporadically. There is a felt filtering material that goes in that hole, and then the welsh plug is "driven" in to keep the filtering material in place. Any Case IH dealer should have that plug on hand. Any auto parts store will have a plug that will fit, but the plug from the auto parts store will need a small hole drilled directly in the center.
