I'm trying to help my neighbor. He's got a 300 Utility that he can't get running after trashing the radiatior with a busted fan blade. He took the distributor off to dry out, hasn't been able to get it started since. Any obvious things to look for? What's the firing order? Point gap? It's 6V postivie ground. He's a little stressed right now, he took his mom to the hospital last night. I'd sure like to be able to give him a hand, open to any suggestions. Thanks. Mark

1342 from radiator toward rear. Top right on cap
(facing forward, looking at the cap) is #one,
bottom right is #3, bottom left (toward block) is
#4 top left is #2.
Clean and tidy using electrical system spray to
take out the residual Glycol (a sugar) from the
distributor. Set the points at .020".
Put a dab of grease on the rubbing block of the
points. Drag a folded dollar bill through the
closed points to clean them.
Do not change the timing, it was running, and if
so it will be very close.
Be sure the fuel is on, and (if no firing, take
out the spark plugs heat them (business end
only)with a propane torch for one minute each,
then put them in (use a rubber hose to keep burnt
fingers to a minimum) and start it. Jim

Remove all the sparkplugs and hold your thumb over No1 sparkplug hole near the radiator. Have a helper to slowly crank over the engine slowly until you feel pressure against your thumb. Once you feel pressure drop a long plastic straw on top of No1 piston. Then you watch the straw rise while your helper keeps slowly cranking the engine. When the straw quits rising remove the distributor cap. If the rotor isn't pointing to the No1 plug tower that's near 1 o'clock you need to pull the distributor and rotate the rotor
and turn it so it's at the No1 plug tower. When you install the cap the rotor should be at the No1 plug wire. Remove the straw and install the
sparkplugs. Make sure your plug wires are in this firing order on the cap:
2-1
4-3 as the rotor rotates CW. Each plug wire needs to go to the corresponding sparkplug in the firing order. No1 plug wire to the sparkplug near the radiator, No3 to the third plug from the radiator, No4 to the last plug and No2 wire. Then see if the engine will start.

Note: Whenever you pull a distributor or a mag make a note even a sketch is better where the rotor is pointing. Then DON'T MOVE THE ENGINE
after the mag or distributor is removed.
