Hey Guys.

I am trying to determine why my cub is still idling fast. I tried moving the jam nut/bolt on the bumper spring out some but it had no effect. Moving in or out had no impact. Doing that was a suggestion from this board. I did notice the nut was very easy to move in and out. Is this normal? It seemed to have no tension on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

The bumper spring adjustment will be easy to turn, there is nothing on the inside but a spring that, if turned in too far will contact the fingers on the governor rockshaft , pushing them back increasing the RPMs at low idle.
If the bumber spring is not the issue, and the little screw on the carb throttle is turned out, have you adjusted the linkage from the rockshaft to the carb?
Check out this page, paragraph 26: [b:212c5100e2]http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/I&T IH-50 Shop Manuals/IH-50 Complete/Page 07.jpg[/b:212c5100e2]

Thanks, I will take a look at this. Concerning the jam nut/bumper spring, I screwed the jam nut/bolt all the way in and the idle had no response/change. I took it all the way out and all the way in and it made no diff. If I take it all the way out, does the spring come out with the bolt? I have have to check that bumper spring I guess to make sure it's not broken.

Thanks

If the engine is running at a high enough RPM, the fingers may have been too far away for the spring to make contact to raise the RPM's any higher. The spring is not attached to the bolt. If sits in a recess that the bolt has drilled into the end of it. If you attempt to pull the bolt out, there is a chance that the spring may fall into the cavity of the governor.
