IHC 3414 transmission

I have an old 3414 loader with a gas engine and a 4 speed manual transmission. The transmission has a HIGH/LOW lever that works for each speed. The gears grind unless this lever is tightly held in either the high or low positions. I mean really, really tight! If I don't hodl the lever tightly, it will pop out of position and grind the gears. I see a plate over the top of the tranny and am tempted to remove it to see what going on but don't really know a lot about transmissions. Has anyone out there experienced this problem? If so, is it relatively easy to fix? Thanks!!

Hi, about 40 years ago, I had top off a 434, same transmission as your 3414 and there were slider rails with balls on a spring that dropped into detentes on the slider rails to hold the rails to keep the transmission in gear.

Go to caseih.com parts and search for parts and enter B414 and look for the transmission parts.

IIRC it was a challenge to get the top off as the front of the hydraulic housing was in the way preventing a straight lift off.

Hi, check on CaseIH website for search-parts,354,chassis,transmission/shaft/gear. No15 is a needle bearing, if that bearing is bad, the HI/low act like your's. Bernard le mecano

Thanks for the reply! You are correct about the hydraulic housing. I can see one bolt in particular that might be a real problem. 40 years??!! I wish I had your memory.. Thanks again.

Thanks Bernard. I'll check out the website and see if part is still available after 50 years. Thanks for your reply!
