trying to sell 2 tractors - Massey 135 old Farmall A

Dad passed away 4 months ago. He owned, and used his tractors every season. We have his Farmall A, (not sure of year, but I think it's a 1939)...and we have his Massey 135, we believe was built between 1964-1967. We have had several people inquiring about buying them, but we are at a loss as to how to go about pricing them. The Massey is a nice tractor, and is a hoss. The Farmall, dad used to disk up and set his rows, and bushhogging around. It is showing it's age, but with just a bit of tinkering will run. Dad had to tinker every season, charging the battery's, but nothing major, and both tractors were operating when he parked them. No one else in our family ever operated either. So, ANYONE who can steer me in the right direction, where to look, or who can I talk to to find out what the value is on both of these tractors. Mom is not looking or trying to make a huge profit---but she is really afraid to set a price, for fear she is giving it away. The money she makes will go to help buy dad's cemetery marker/headstone. Thanks. I can upload pics, but it will take a few days, if needed.

The A would go for around $800-$1200 in the coudition you describe around here (California). Assuming it really does run decent.

No idea about the Massey.

Check out prices on external_link. They seem to be on the higher end, but that is because a lot are dealer owned. Those listed be private sellers usually are less.

I have a MF135 around a '74 model. I paid around 3500 for it about 10 years ago. It did have a loader and make shift cab.

Thanks Warren...not seen that site yet, but I"ll check it out now. "Appreciate your reply! and about your 135. This one is w/o a loader and cab...just the reg. 135 tractor. any other thoughts feel free to send them to me. again tY!

Do a tune up and getting them in running shape. If you have implements for the tractors sell them
as a package deal. I sold my Farmall A back in 1976 for $1895.00. That included the 16-inch moldboard plow. The engine was completely rebuilt with a new sleeve/piston kit, new tires,
wiring, steering wheel and seat. Plus a lot of work. Hal
PS: I forgot the rims and paint.

Hal, hey good job there on your old A. It was prob. worth every penny of the 1895.00 you got for it. See though, I was planning on getting my cousin (paying him to help us)--who is a whiz at rebuilding engines to come over and tinker with both the Massey and the A and get them in good starting condition. They both run, but won"t crank right now without a little attention, nothing major, dad did that every year as he started them out. Just reg. maintanance--but neither have been started in 2 seasons now, so we"ll get him going on that soon. The A needs a new seat, the wiring to, and the signals that attach to either fender need replacements...dad didn"t keep the A around for it"s looks! It"s a good running old tractor. He"d just get a larger pillow to throw over the rusted out seat each time it gave way more. Both were running when he parked them where they are now sitting. We have attachments out back where dad dropped them off. Are they called "bog" disks? he has a couple of those, plowing disks, gang disk, cultivator, bush hog, and a lawn finisher that needs sheet metal repair where it has rusted out.
All for sale, we"ll sell each tractor with attachments. Any attachments out back should work with either tractor. Almost certain both are diesel, for sure the Massey 135 is. We are in Leland, N.C. in Brunswick County, just west of Wilmington, about 10 minutes. thanks!

The Farmall A didn't have lights on each fender originally. Although they could have just been added to the fenders, from what you are saying it sounds like a Farmall 140 with a pan seat and the fender brackets for the blinker lights. Those came that way from the factory. It could also be a retro-fitted Farmall SUPER A with those attachments. You also said it has the hydraulics. If that is the case, that is waaayyyyyy off from a Farmall A as far as price.

Check out my pictures below and pick out which one your tractor looks like the most. Notice the difference from the Farmall A and the SUPER A is the big hole under the gas tank where the hydraulic lift is missing on the Farmall A.

RTR: THANK you for those pics. Those are exactly what I needed to look at...I can now id dad"s Farmall against these pics. I"m not there now, as I mentioned its over at mom"s, but I"ll get to this in the next day or two. Yes, I know it had hydraulics, and the seat is a pan style seat. What is on the fenders looks like an amber round light in a square metal bracket that you can swivel, or maybe the mounting screw/nut is/are loose. The front tires are not close set, but the wide spread out as in your pics...i have seen the Farmalls diff. years, earlier ones i believe had the front tires really close together. I will look and get back if i have another question. Your pics are the best help I"ve had so far, as I"ve been scouring the net for a collection of just Farmalls to see, but they are not only hard to find, but when I do they don"t give alot of info, and sometimes they"re difficult to see what I need to, because of an angle shot. Thanks for your help, sir!

Take your camera with you when you go look at the tractor again. I expect with RTR's pictures you will be able to ID it. If not, take several pictures from different sides and post them. No doubt someone here will be able to quickly settle any question.

Look for the serial number of the tractor. The Super A's had serial numbers that were six digits
starting with SN 250001. Having hydraulics will make the tractor worth more if it's in good shape. Hal

Hal,

If you don't mind me asking.....why are your rims painted yellow on your A? Was that personal preference or a historical thing? Just curious as I have never seen that belfore.
