Starter switch conversion

The starter on my H is the pull rod type with switch mounted on the starter. I want to go to the switch mounted on the steering support (bracket is already there). How can I convert as removing the starter mounted switch reveals no threaded stud for the cable? Is there a threaded stud available to replace the existing contact on my starter or is the only option to get another starter?

A shop that rebuilds starters should be able to do the conversion, or maybe sell you the necessary hardware. It will involve doing some soldering.

I never did like that pull rod switch set-up either.

I agree with Rusty. All you need is a threaded stud instead of that big copper button and if theres any old fashion mom n pop starter/genny/alternator shops near you they can do it or sell you the parts. Once thats in place you can convert to a push start switch or heck even an electric solenoid.
