Mounted picker question.

What are the chances that a New Idea mounted 2 row corn picker for a 706 would mount up to a Super M? Even id needing to modify some brackets would it take a lot of work? Just curious. Thanks!

The New Idea Picker units were designed to work on many makes of tractors, with different mounting kits So it is highly possible to go from a 706 to a super m , with a lot of cutting & welding.

Unless they all went to the junk you should be able to find the mounting brackets for a M, 400, and 450 with no problem. If you find them the picker will fit right on.

The only real change ya have to make is the axle mounting brackets for the under carriage . For the M's thru the 560 the axle bracket mounts where the fender mount in the same holes . On a 706-856 they used U bolts around the axle them are the hard ones to find. Back 20 years or so ago my one Jocky buddy and i were buying ever 305 and 319 we could find and every tric M- 706 and mounting pickers on them and would try to have two at every sale we sold at east of Indiana And i made a bunch of mounting brackets that looked almost factory out of Channel iron and angle iron . It did not take a bunch of work , just a cut off saw a drill press and a welder . There are only two bolts ya have to remove to change the mounting brackets for the axle on each side of the sub frame.

There is a New Idea 2 row picker in the photo ads. He is planning to junk it but doesn't say what it was mounted on. You might give him a call as you might just get lucky and get the hardware you need cheap.

New idea pickers were very common in my area of Indiana when I was a kid. They were run on everything from Ms on up. However they faster they run the better the snap rollers shuck. We had a 706 and had good results. Neighbor had an M and local elevator stopped taking his ear corn because of too much husk. If. You put it on your super M run it clear wide open and then some.

Back in the late '50s/early '60s, there were a lot of New Idea pickers in NE Iowa mounted on just about any tractor you could name. NI made brackets for almost everything, so they should be around anywhere that brand was popular.

I have recently bought a 234 to mount on a 706. The tractor has a 3pt so I have the power lift undercarriage. I also have a NI 319 that mounts on an IH 656 with standard drawbar. I would like to mount the 319 to the 706. I read about you had made brackets for NI pickers. Do you still have brackets for a 706 that I could buy from you? Thank you!
