1026 Hydro Surging

Hey guys, got a question for ya regarding the Hydro drive servo control. The hydro drive surges as much as one mph faster and then slows back down over and over at light load and high engine RPM. Seems to be the worst from just below the blue area of the speed control to right in the blue area. Under a heavy pull there is no surging. At half throttle there is no surging. I run in high range most of the time. Hydro seems to be healthy otherwise because it will pull the engine right down. Filters and fluids are changed on schedule. Has anyone seen this problem before on the hydro tractors? I also need to mention that the linkage from the lever going to the spool on the side of the transmission is tight. No play whatsoever in that linkage. Any ideas? Thanks

Had this happen on a 186. Under not load, road speed and after checking all things I felt might cause this,I just set the speed of engine down as it was over speeding and that took care of the problem. I felt I was getting plate lift off from the excessive rpm's. I know that usually happens when plates get worn and under heavy load or coast but I just could not find any other reason under the circumstances and it worked fine after that. It didn't take much rpm reduction and it still was within specs at no load.

I should have also added that I have seen this on two other tractors also, one was a failing brass bushing in the hydrostatic motor and the other was with a failing check valve BUT, they did it at all engine speeds and the one with bad check valve seat only did it under no load as the higher pressure under load would seal the ball in the check valve.

This is happening at PTO speed and above. Kind of annoying when you are trying to run at 8 to 10 mph with a disk mower, lol. Thanks for the reply
