Almost ready to plant... Almost (pics)

Went and plowed some fields that haven't been turned in over 100 years. I had to use my super M and 2 bottom plow to get through it. Still new and learning a lot from it. I had to plow through a field of grape vines and Japanese Knot weed. GLAD THATS OVER! kept plugging the plow and just drove me nuts. I know it's not perfect but this part will only be food plots. The fields by my house will be corn, potatoes and pumpkins. Comments are welcome. P.S. my bird dog would follow in the rows trying to chase field mice or anything else. Love that dog.

Very nice! Wish that the soil here could be ploughed with a mouldboard; have to use a disc plough to get into the ground.

Have you done any research on the knot weed? If it is the same bamboo stuff we have here, you may have opened a can of worms. Even the state is haveing a terrible time with it along the highways. When you mow/ or tear it out it stimulates growth and spreads. Roundup is a partial solution another is to smother it for a season or two with tarps or old carpet to keep it from sunlight.

I would keep a sharp eye out for it's return.

We've had it here for 30+ years. I've done so much to try to get rid of it. Nothing works for to long. I'm planning on planting clover where I plowed it this year and cutting it so that it can't re establish the roots. We will see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

It will disappear after ten years of weekly mowing. Some have had favorable results with Roundup in late August when it is preparing to flower. I have done that and stunts it for several seasons.

England has been fighting this problem for decades. Their results have been discouraging.

I think if you plow it twice a year for several years and hand pick the roots before harrowing, that might be effective.
