IH 454 Diesel fuel pump

I have a IH 454 diesel
it has what looks like a fuel pump on the right side before it goes into the fuel filter
the pump if that's what it is is leaking pretty bad
I know on our 485 there is no pump just lines straight from the fuel tank to the fuel filter
could I do away with the pump and let it gravity feed like the 485
none of my books show or mention the pump from what I can tell looking online it was put on mostly UK tractors

Thanks

Russell, the lift pump is required for CAV
injection pump. It is probably a leaky diaphragm.
I went to caseih.com parts search D-179 Europe and
it is called a Fuel Feed Pump, diaphragm part
number is:
3132798R1 DIAPHRAGM PUMP.
Had to replace one on B414 years ago. It was
leaking Diesel out the weeping hole and into the
crankcase.
Same pump is used on Perkins Diesels on MFs.

Hi Russell, I am curious about your 454, have you
owned it since new and how many hours on it?
My brother now has my Dad's 454 that was bought in
1973 and has well over 15,000 Hrs on it. Still
starts and runs great.
The only 74 series that I ever saw in Canada with
a CAV injection pump was a 574 the first year that
they were sold in Canada sometime in the early
1970s.

My '71 has the Bosch pump. 5500 hours on tach hour meter which is working and appears original. After 41 years, who really knows!

I bought the 454 about 2 years ago for $1100
It has been sitting in the barn with me working on it on and off
I now am finishing it up after rewiring it, new ring gear on the flywheel, new gear on the starter, new clutch and throw out bearing, I put a set of modified New Holland sway bars on it and some other stuff
It has 5500 hours on it and runs and cranks great other than the fuel leak on the fuel pump
I will post some pics later and the serial number if someone can tell me what year it is
Thanks for the info on the CAV injection pump I have found a couple sorces for the lift fuel pump but my local Case IH dealer cant get one

Here is some pics of the tractor the day I bought it home

Good find for $1100, it is also a UK version (fenders and 4 post like that weren't sold here) The headlights are low mounted, north America the grill was turn 180 to move the lights up higher (IH logo would be right side up though!)

Swept back axle and nose weight as well.

Most 454's had low crown fenders, some had flat tops.

Russell, your 454 looks good for 40+ years.

This is me chopping corn with my Dad's 454 back in 1972 or 73.
Very similar to Russell's except for head lights at top of rad grill and flat top fenders.

Russell, the swaybars should work great.
I see the difference between the rad grills, my
Dad's 454 has the latches at the top and yours has
the latches at the bottom but IH emblem is right way
up in both tractors.
