Super C - no Spark

My "51 Super C has been converted to 12V, and has been running fine until recently. After a long winter, I got it started but almost immediately it stopped suddenly and I haven"t been able to get it started since. I checked spark by holding a sparkplug wire next to engine block while cranking and it appears to have no spark. I suspect maybe the condenser suddenly quit, but would like to know some suggestions on how to troubleshoot. Should I just replace points/rotor/cap/condenser and try again? Can I replace these easily with distributor on the tractor or can I pull the distributor to make it easier. Suggestions?

Take the cap off of the distributor. If it has a dust cover, remove the rotor and cover. Polish the contacts with 320 grit paper, then wipe it with a folded dollar bill. Place the coil wire 1/4" away from the block. Turn on the ignition, then tweak the points with a screw driver. It should spark. Jim

Jim - polished the points (contacts) tonight and it started right up. Thanks for the advice. I didn't bother to tweak the points since that would mean re-setting them. I simply polished the points then put the rotor back in and it started immediately. Don

I love remote diagnosis. It would be cheap at 6 times the cost but no more effective. You are welcome. Jim
