I am thinking of changing the axle on one side of my 1951 Super C. One side was broke some time ago and replaced with a shorter axle. I would like both to be the same size. I have a replacement axle. Any trick to replacing the axle? Is it a matter of pulling the old one out and inserting the new one....or is there something inside I have to do?

Thanks in advance.

You have to slide it out of the bull gear. Some work thru the PTO hole, easier to remove the trans/diff cover.

(quoted from post at 14:33:20 04/08/12) Why not just cut off the old one?
e could try that, but maybe it will still be too short.

He never said whether he is replacing the short one or the long one.

So how heavy is the transmission cover? Looks pretty heavy to me. It is more than a one person operation to remove it??

Thanks

Larry

(quoted from post at 15:49:57 04/08/12) pull trans cover and if i remember right two bolts holds it in place inside the trans

Two bolts on the original axles. A snap ring is used on the later replacement axles.
