Farmall 300 Timing Marks

Pulled the distributor out and now need to retime it. I have four timing marks on the fan pulley (three are close, the fourth one is further away). Which mark do I use to find TDC? Then when I line this up with the pointer, where do I align the distributor cap at? Is it right at the #1 post or slightly before/after. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

The way I do it is remove number 1 spark plug and hold your thumb over the hole (be sure switch is off or remove coil wire) you can feel when the compression pushes your thumb. then line your rotor up with number 1 in the cap. this should be close enough to start then adjust your dist. until it runs the smoothest and retard just a little. Hope this works for you.

pull #1 plug
feel for pressure
put a soda straw in the hole rotate till it just stops moving (roll it in high gear)
when there it is TDC
Adjust to that mark
Insert the dist. rotate till the points just break, (Ohm Meter)
Lock it down,

Jim
