584 ihc hard shifting into reverse

I have a 584 ihc that started to be hard to shift into reverse seems like not going in all the way does not grind when trying to shift any help appreciated.
 
Hi Merle, do have the old style shift levers, with the levers in the slots? New style has fwd/rev and H pattern for 1-4.
I would check the adjustment of the Fwd/Hi/Lo lever adjustment that the lever is not limiting on the back of the slot. Does it have a T/A? Does it shift easier in Lo T/A?

hi jim it has new style fwd reverse lever and h pattern on 4 speeds no torque amp.long lever on fwd rev short on 4 spd long lever shifts hi and low speeds it seems as if something is not allowing reverse lever to go back far enough.
 
Hi Merle, I was using my brothers 3230 (newer version of 584) with 2250 loader yesterday afternoon and it was hard to shift from LO to Rev also. My brother said just put in Lo T/A and it will shift good. Did that and it shifted good.
I don't know the reason it shifts easier in LO T/A. The only difference would be the reduced speed of the transmission input shaft.
Unfortunately your 584 doesn't have a T/A.
I noticed that going to Rev feels like there is only about 1/2 inch between being in gear and not in gear.

hi jim found trouble lifted up shifter boot found a short piece of log chain had slid down behind shift lever and bracket removed chain works perfect thanks for help.

Hi Merle, you are welcome.
That was an easy fix but I did learn something about the 84 and above series with the electric T/A shift switch from Bernard le Mechano and that is there is a different START/Neutral switch on the clutch that also switches T/A into Lo when the clutch is depressed so that it makes gear changes easier.
