Spool valve rebuild

Spool valve on a 1566 is leaking out the back hole of the detent. How invasive is this procedure ? The reason I ask is that I had a 504 doing the same thing and took it to a reputable repair shop and had to take it back 3 times and it was never right. Also, this tractor only has one spool valve. How could I add a couple more ?

First off , you don't have to take the entire valve off. You pull the spool out the rear. I can tell you how to do that part on here but pretty hard to tell you how to take it apart. Unhook the linkage in front of valve, turn the large nut on the back and if the pipe does not come along with the nut, put a pipe wrench or other suitable tool and turn the pipe out, then gently pull spool out. You can easily add one valve but not two.

You probably need to replace a couple of O-rings inside the detent mechanism and possibly the piston. Don't attempt to disassemble it without studying the manual. It's doable with ordinary tools, but tricky.
