i am working on a farmall h that was stuck i got the pistons out and i have ordered new sleeves and pistons but i am looking for a easy way to get the old sleeves out also to put the new ones in any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

You really need a puller, you can make one or borrow one from a dealer or machine shop. You can even make your own puller but will need to have the puck that goes under the sleeve needs to be very precise. And Yes there are other ways to get them out but the sleeve puller is the best and most effective method.

making somthing sounds good would anyone on here have a pic of one so i have something to go by

You can also pound them out, which is easier if the block is upside down. I have done it with a big old screwdriver,(not fun), and with a large heavy wall pipe of some sort that I picked up at an auction that is about the right size. Depending how stuck they are these methods may not work, there are some I have not been able to pound out. Some people weld a bead down the inside of the sleeve which shrinks it, but I have never done that myself.

the fastest is with a welder. i just weld 2 beads vertically at 180 degrees and the stick my fist in and pull them out. but you need welder experience or you can damage the block.

take the new sleeve to the machine shop and they will build you a puck. i had one built for the 282 diesel for 100.00. they can build the whole puller also just from looking at the sleeve.

same problem with my A. i tryed a hydrolic jack, didnt work. remember, thay have a rubber o ring. like some one said, take a pipe, preforalby alluimum, and hit it hard. thay will pop out. when putting new ones in, dishsoap around the o rings, will set new ones in. good luck. will work.

After you get the old sleeves out, the new ones will go in with a little "persuasion". We used remove the piston and then wrap the new sleeves individually in newspaper. Put them in the deep freeze over night. (Make sure you # them and the piston that was in them when you remove it so you keep the pair together.) When you have the block bore cleaned & ready, oil one hole lightly, get one sleeve out of the freezer, unwrap it and slide it in the hole. (It might be a good idea to have a 4X4 or 4X6 hardwood block ready, because the sleeve might need some "friendly persuasion" from a 4-pound hammer to "get'er done", but it works.) Repeat the procedure for each hole. We did a lot of them that way when I was a kid. From about the 6th grade until I was out of HS, we farmed 800 acres with three H's and overhauled one every winter for about 5 years and never broke a sleeve. It those days you could get an overhaul kit from TSC for about $70. It included all gaskets and a sleeve & piston set along with rod bearings in standard, .010 or .020 under. As I remember it, if you needed .030 under, it was an extra $5.00. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

i got them out thanks for the input it probally was not the right way but i used a hammer and a pucnh and drove them out carefully not to hurt the block

You CAN take a die grinder and "score" them the full legnth of the sleeve also.Just make a trough the legnth of it.It will give up.

I just pulled the sleeves on my m yesterday with a floor jack, a length of pipe, and a 3 inch socket. Worked like a charm and took 30 minutes. Find someone with a large socket set and you will be done in no time.
