Decided I needed to use my 504 loader tractor. It's been several years since its last use. Cleaned the carb, filed the points, installed a new battery, and drained water from rear frame.

The sediment bowl was plugged. Removed it and installed the screen. Lots of crap in that tank. This should help. The window screen goes in about 3/4".

Been thinking about blowing out the tank with compressed air. Correct me if I am wrong. I don't think there will be any static electricity discharges because the hose is a non-conductor. My body doesn't fit the same classification but I was thinking long rubber gloves should work.

I have a screen like that on my H and it does seem to help. My tank is gradually getting cleaner, used to be I had to clean out the bowl every day, now it goes for months.

I would rinse that tank out with diesel a few times. You have it off the tractor I take it???

I took mine off, rinsed it with old diesel, did the muratic acid soak, rinsed with water several times, blew it down, and things are all good these days.

I clean the sediment bowl very little these days.I put all my new fuel in VIA a funnel with a brass screen also.

The tank remains on the tractor. No intention to remove it at this time. Water flood washes are good if the tank can be turned up side down. I've done it on a M tank.

Not a big fan of muriatic acid. It is the quickest way, apart from sandblasting, to remove zinc. Plus, when you are done, what do you do with the waste? Throw it over the fence onto your neighbors lawn or flush it down the toilet after treating it with baking soda?

Once you neutralize it,YES! When the acidity levels are gone, flush it down the toilet.OR,if your toilet is "limed up",DO NOT neutralize it,but let it clean it up TOO,and then add the soda,THEN flush! Recycle!

Why are we removing zinc???

It would be easier to have removed it anyway.

Fill cap hole is where you are gonna get the BIGGEST "chunks" out of it,NOT the sediment bowl threads.

How about just grounding the tank while blowing it out? Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just an easier path than your body and a constant connection to eliminate arcing.

Galvanize is zinc plating. It is on the inside of fuel tanks. Outside too but treated for paint adhesion.

Yea,I see what you mean.

The rust is in areas that this is gone now.My tank still has some in it,but the areas that had the rust didnt have any plating left anyway.

Mine is running really clean these days, buit I had to take it of to get that BIG debris out of it.I dont even run ANY kind of screen at the sediment bowl at all.

How dry is your air up there Wardner? Unless humidity is extremely low I don't think static electricity will be be a problem.

Yea,mine too Zach,

I found out after GOOD cleaning and running MORE than 1/2 tank of fuel at ALL times,(It "sloshes" around up in the roof of the tank.keeping it coated) I dont get hardly ANY stuff out of it now.

It was around 11% yesterday and similar today. The weatherman says it is extremely low for this area.

Not sure I will blow it out. I think the crud will probably scamper into the area behind the baffle. I'll see what I can do with a vacuum. Yep, I understand that can also cause static discharge.
