I"m getting new tires next week, decided to get BKT"s because im not using them very often but i just found some 13.6-38 Carlisle Farm Specialist HA tires at miller tire for only $30 more a tire. Is there an advantage to the Carlisle? anyone one using them who would recommend them or not?

thanks, Anthony

I bought some BKTs for a SH last year. The tread bars are twice as far apart as normal and about half as deep.Sure, they were about 1/3 of 'normal',I got what I paid for.I believe I would buy the Carlyle.

I don"t know how they compare with Carlisles, but I"ve had good luck with Titans and they are made in The Good Old USA!

Check on the availability of AMERICAN FARMER brand tires. Made in the USA and has a long history of tire production. MICHELIN even partnered with them in supplying tires for military vehicles. They are made by SPECIALTY TIRE COMPANY. I even got a better deal than the imported brands.

That is a loaded question, one person will like and think they are good and the next person thinks they are junk. That goes for all brands. So many people like Firestone tractor tires but with the luck I have had I would not buy one. Others think Titan are junk but I have had good luck with them.

Loaded question? I didnt ask what brand of tire I should buy, I was asking those who have used those tires what they think of them, I dont care who is a diehard firestone, titan, michelin guy, im looking for imput from those who have used or know someone who has used Carlisle.....

It is a loaded question because there is no definite scientifically defined answer. All you will get are peoples opinions, which is indeed what you are looking for to help you make a decision in buying. I have Titans but will not do that again. After two years they are weather checked pretty bad, and my tractors always sit in the machine shed when not in use. I have some 50 year old tires that look better than my one year old Titans. (cattle manure seem to make them even worse) Maybe I am always flat broke because of it but I always try to buy the best of what I am using, but my tractors get used hard like when they were new. (plowing, planting etc) I will put on Firestones next time, but there is a gentleman that posted he will never buy them again. Who knows, I may have good luck with them or his. Good Luck and let us know what you find after a year or so.

Is the difference REALLY only $30 per tire?

OR, is it $30 per tire, plus freight?

If you are getting the BKTs locally, and the Carlisle tires are being trucked to you halfway across the country, the difference may be much more than the $30 sticker price of each tire.

I don't know where people get that BKTs have half the lugs and half the lug depth... The pictures I've seen of BKTs look just as "luggy" as any other brand.

Titan fancies itself a "premium" brand right up there with Firestone, but they're not all that and a bag of Funions in my book.

Tires are almost as bad of an investment as a car. Get as much as you can for as little as you can.

JMHO and I am perfectly content with the decisions I've made so to each their own... But, I have always been of the "do it once" mindset and thus have invested the money to get a good quality tire. Everything I own has Firestone Road & Field on it except one M which has Armstrong rear rubber which came on it and I stuck Goodyear on the front. Everything I have is between 5 and 15 years old and other than dirty, look about like the day I put them on. I use them too and stuff doesn't always sit in the barn... No checks of the sidewall or deterioration of the lug.

The price these days will make one choke but would you rather buy cheap tires twice or good tires once? If it is a parade tractor it is probably a moot point but if you are going to farm with it you may want to think long and hard.

I bought BKT's for a John Deere GP. They look just fine to me. Talked with a friend in Holland. That's all they use overthere..
