torque the head down

Hello i need some help I am getting ready to put a
head gasket on my 1950 H. I was hoping some one
could tell me if there is a pattern when putting the
head on and if there is a torque when putting the
bolts back on the head? Thanks

Yes, there is a pattern. Start in the middle and "Spiral" out from there. Start with 40 ft-lbs and repeat in increments of 10 ft-lbs until you reach the desired torque.

Double check the torque after a few hours of running.

I am not sure of the torque for a H. I use 90 ft-lbs as the final torgue for F/W series tractors of the 1930s.

yes and it's very important!

Do as fdean says.

The idea is to start in the middle and sort of "flatten" the head out evenly in each direction.

Also make sure there's a little oil on the threads when you're torqueing them. The torque specs always assume oiled threads vs. dry threads. It can make a big difference.

take the nuts and chase the threads on the bolts, prior to torquing. this will help eliminate those tough spots on the bolts and you will get a more accurate torque on the bolt.
