replaced the head gasket, had the head resurfaced on my 400 gasser and adjusted the valves as per the manual before putting it back together. I think they need further adjusting, I believe I hear a little pinging.

any hints or tricks on how to get them properly adjusted?

thanks.

With the engine warmed up to operating temperature, retorque the head bolts to 110 ft/lbs and then adjust valve lash to .017" and you are done.

to get them properly adjusted follow the firing order sequence. adjust #1 cyl's valves at tdc on compression then turn it over to get #3 at tdc and do the same for the other 3 cyl's. with one revolution of the crank you should have all 4 cyl's adjusted. if your familiar with running mate cyl's you dont even need to remove the spark plugs. just get the running mates valves on the rock.
