SM transmission

I want to replace the gasket between the front driveshaft bearing/housing and the front wall of the transmission, as part of my "restoration". Tractor is split and the clutch housing has had all parts removed except for the driveshaft stub, bearing and bearing housing. Is the bearing going to slide easily on the shaft? I'm hesitant to remove the 6 bolts holding the housing and find the thing won't slide. There isn't a way that I know of to pry it loose and/or attach a puller. All comments appreciated.

I have that housing laying on my bench. Take the six bolts out and the housing along with the shaft and gear will come out. The whole thing is about 8 inchs long and the rear of it is supported by that high priced main shaft pilot brg. Mine came off easy but hang on to it, it's too heavy to drop on your nose.

Thanks -- the service manual says something about the shaft and gear coming out, but looking at it I didn't think it came out that way. Guess I was wrong. I thought the gear was blocked by the front wall of the transmission. So it shouldn't be as difficult as I thought. ALL IH gears are expensive. If needed I will get it from a local bearing place, usually 30-50% cheaper than CaseIH.
