im trying to remove the bull gear shaft that the brake drum fastens to on my h,,as the seal an bearing is bad,,,,,is there a easy way to remove this shaft ,,or do i just keep on prying an beating until something gives,?,,,,,,any info is appreciated ,,,,,,,,,thanks ,,,charles,

STOP PRYING AND BEATING. You have to get the bull gear out of the way to get the bull pinion shaft and the housing it ride in out. Drain, pull pto, take bolt out holding bull gear to axle. Then, you can either push the axle out or take axle housing off. Then you can move bull gear out of the way as you will see why by then.

You do not have to remove anything to replace the seal. The shaft will not come out unless you remove the trans/diff cover, and you will break something if you keep banging.

You must remove the bull gear from the axle and make sure the bull gear is not protruding into the bull pinion housing before you attempt to remove the bull pinion housing, which must be removed to get the shaft out. If you have broken the bull gear housing by prying on it I or others can sell you a replacement but it is better to save yourself the trouble. It looks on the outside like it comes right out, and it does once the bull gear is removed, but when the choice is between the pinion housing and the bull gear the pinion housing will break every time.

GET A SERVICE MANUAL BEFORE YOU BREAK SOMETHING!!!

All those people said what I will tell you. I can give you a couple pictures when I did this project.

There is no easy way to remove the bull pinon shaft. I think it works best to remove the top cover and go from there. If you are going to use the tractor, be sure to buy a good bearing.

There are many many stories of broken bull pinion cages to go around, from people who tried to remove that shaft from the outside.
