Seat options for B and parts progress

Was there more than one option for a B seat? The majority of the seats I see are the same as on the A. Mine is similar to what you would see on a H. If it isn't original, it was put on soon after the tractor was made because it is just as weathered as the rest of the tractor. This is what mine looks like:

Here's a few pics I found on the web with the exact same seat.

If it was a "farm fix" it was a good one because the mount is made to bolt right up to the "C" shaped area of the transmission. Anyone seen this type of seat assy on another tractor type?

I also picked up some parts I needed. Flywheel cover, lower cup for the air cleaner, connecting rod and generator. Think I did alright for $40. I forgot to grab a rod bolt and nut. I have the bolt on my other rod but not the nut. I think I have all the parts I need now. Picked up a set of rod bearings last week. Just need a full set of rings and get the head worked over.

The first seat looks like a Joyrider. Very comfortable and was an aftermarket option. It is correct to the time frame.

Those are all aftermarket seats. They were commonly available at the time, and they were installed on many tractors, but they are not the factory seat.

The seat is a "Monroe" easy ride. Not standard equipment for your B, but available on the aftermarket. It is entirely possible the seat was dealer installed when the tractor was new.

Different versions of the Monroe seat were available for the Farmall H and M, and even the Ford 8ns, earlier 2 cylinder John Deeres, Massey-Harris and probably several other brands.

Thanks guys! The knowledge of the people on this site is unreal. Info you need in 30 minutes or less. Better than Dominos!

If you find you need more parts I have lot of them laying around. I have 2 engines here with bad blocks but lots of good parts still in those blocks. Also have 2 or 3 heads laying around. @ years ago I built a BA out of 2 junk Bs and one junk A so I have a tractor that from the trans forward is a B and from the trans back is an A. It has a sickle mower on back and has duals on the left rear but a single on the right. Sort of roll over protection

I hated that Monroe seat on our B. I took it off and replaced it with an original seat and brackets that I bought on e-bay. Later I added the buddy seat with help from Gene Bender. Most people say that they find the Monroe seat more comfortable but I have spent all day in both and prefer the original big pan seat with a good seat cover on it.

I think the seat pan just bolts onto the shaft. I wonder if you coudn't put a big seat pan on it? I'll have to look at it closer. It is also a little too close to the steering wheel. I think I could move it back about 4 inches. I thought the seat was a little narrow also.

Old - I have you in mind if I need to change out the seat to an original if you have the set up.

There were several brands of aftermarket seats for those tractors they did not leave the factory with one like you have. What you probably saw on the A would have been the original factory seat and the B would have came with the same even the SA used same.

A factory seat is one thing I do not have but I do have another type of after market seat that has a back rest on it. You have any more pictures of that little loader that one has and where does it get hyd power. It might be nice to build a little loader like that for my BA

The B with the loader looks like it has a pto driven pump on the back. Just a pic I swiped off the web when I googled "Farmall B". I don't know if there are any more pics of that tractor.

Ive had a loader on one of my Bs usthe Char-Lynn power pac unit works well for over 40 yrs its a good unit single and two way res, pump and control all in one unit. 1000PSI @ 10GPM Mounted justleft of PTO using 60 roller chain makes the controls just left of the driver also put one on another B Works well for the 7ft wheel disc i built in the garden and powers the wood splitter. Have some for sale if anyone is interested they are very good units just dont run over 700 rpm.

The actual seat pan looks like an "implement" seat, something off a piece of horse-drawn equipment.

It's mounted with the standard 4-bolt pattern, so an H or M style seat should bolt right up.
