Trying to make the impossible possible

When I made a post about rear tires for my H, someone said "If you are in India, just have the navy take them home for you!" Well, I'm gonna try, but it's gonna be tough. Here's what I got to do:
1) Find a BKT dealership
2) Negotiate a really good deal for 2 tires and tubes.
3) Get the tires to the pier.
4) Get a boat to take them out to the ship (We're anchoring)
5) Get the ship to crane them on and store them (That's easy)
6) Clear customs
7) Put them in the shipment with our stuff to get trucked back to my base.
8. Pick them up on base and get them out to my tractor (I'll have to borrow a pickup for that)

Easy, huh? #1-4 are going to be the toughest part.

Wish me luck!

Well Mike, if you get the logistics through #7 figured out, have em throw a set of 13-6x38's on for me, and I'll bring my pickup down and help ya with #8!(and pay for my tires of course;-)

Mike, Tell the ship's comapnay they are for the toe tractor back in Conus.He77 we ahd a 28 foot sailboat in the hangar bay on the Connie for some Captain back in Coronado. Loaded it aboard in Taiwan.
The bomb lockers are empty so there;s room down there for about 1000 sets of tires.

If you were in the Air Force you could fly 'em home. You be surprised at the
amount of unofficial freight the Air Force hauls.

BKT is a tire manufacturer from India whose exporting to the U.S. They were recommended to me as a good alternative to more expensive American brands. So, I'm hoping to save even more by getting them from the source country.

We'll see.

Find and old crusty chief that works on the pier. Give him Alkey-haul . Have the tires marked as "Official USN Flotation devices".

Just some ideas.

Good luck, Gene

Have you actually figured up what it going to cost other then the boat ride. By the time you pay for all the rental equipment and mounting it may be just as cheap to buy them here.

You will have to pay for mounting either way.

I'm not sure what rental equipment you are referring to. If I have to hire a boat, I won't get very far because of security, so I'll have to find a boat already being used for cargo going to the ship, and just tag along.

A lot of this decision will come from the price of the tires. I haven't gotten any replies to any request I've e-mailed, so I figured I won't know that answer till I get there. If the price isn't great, then I won't pull the trigger. That easy.

I still think you should try it... Just so you've got a "war story" to tell your grandkids. "Hey did I tell you about the time when your old granddad bought tractor tires in India?"
