Plowing in March

I came home from work today, gassed up the M and went out and plowed a couple of acres. I live in western NY where its not the best drainage. I've been around plowing for either crops or at least a garden most of my 58 years and have never plowed in March, often not in April and sometimes not until Memorial Day. We had practically no winter and most of March has been more like May or June. I hope we don't pay for this weather around haying season.

Good fortune for you !! Here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, we got 6 inches of SNOW...what a way to end the month !! Anyway, I put my blade on the Cub and "bladed" the driveway !! Let's hope April is better, weatherwise !

11 years ago my neighbor was astonished, he said it was the first time in his 67 years he baled hay in November. (Northern Wisconsin)

Heck, I remember taking my M and plow out to my field here in southeast Nebraska and plowing on January 10, 2006!

I finished my fall tillage last weekend in Central Iowa and the ground worked up nice. This is a year for the History Books!

Plowed the one dry garden and planted 2 small rows of potatoes.First year in over 60 years haven"t had to plow snow. Was in the 70s plus all week, and 87F on Wed. in Bridgewater Nova Scotia It isn"t natural!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had farmers around here are ready to plant but it is just to dry, early, and crop insurance won t pay till after the 8th of April. The dry part is being taken care of now!

I was planing on going out and disk some garden plots with my A/C WD-45, it started raining before i had a chance to get out there, it rained for 4 days straight, got over 3 inches, now I'm waiting for it to dry up a little, i guess we need the rain, but also it's a hassle dealing with the mud.

It's wet where I am but I went over towards Dansville Monday and there was quite a bit going on by Atlanta and Cohocton and a little bit by Middlesex. I saw one filed drilled in recent in Gorham. Probably the guys over in Caledonia were working, too.

I left for the Army 9 April and plowing was done and oats sowed 1958. 1954 neighbor plowed cornstalk ground in Feb we have had early springs before and will again.
